Hoa Sen University Researchers are winners of IID Challenge Grant

The IID Challenge Grants Program invited entries from the four member countries of the UNIID-SEA, namely Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. Selected IID project proposals have to meet criteria of innovation, feasibility, and inclusiveness. In each country, the UNIID-SEA (Universities and Councils Network on Innovation for Inclusive Development in Southeast Asia) worked with the national council of science and technology to evaluate the proposals and interviewed research team members.

The Challenge recognized the selected projects for their noteworthy and workable innovative solutions to persisting poverty-related and social exclusion issues. Additionally, those projects are recognized for enabling more inclusive and collaborative problem solving approaches such as participatory research, citizen science, and human-centered design.

Students from Science and Technology Faculty reported the progress under the guidance of their project researchers

Hoa Sen University’s team consisted of Nguyễn Lưu Bảo Đoan, Nguyễn Ngọc Hân, Trang Hồng Sơn, Nguyễn Ngọc Tú, and Lê Thanh Tùng joined the staff of the Disability Research and Development Center (DRD) to submit a project entitled Innovative Accessibility Map Applications for People with Disabilities in Ho Chi Minh City. Presently, majority of the public places and buildings including restaurants and government offices in Ho Chi Minh City are inadequately structured to accommodate the persons with disabilities. The Project aims to address this inadequacy by developing a smart phone – and web-based application to provide accessibility information of public places and amenities in the city to the public especially the persons with disabilities. The project also aims to create a communication campaign built on the application development to call for the attention of the target users and of the public to the condition of those users.
