Assoc. Prof., Dr. Vo Thi Ngoc Thuy: University should be LIFE

On 26th October, 2022, The Opening Ceremony of the academic year 2022-2023 of Hoa Sen University (HSU) took place at Military Zone 7 Gymnasium (Phu Nhuan District, Ho Chi Minh City) with the theme “Be yourself – But be your best self.” At the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vo Thi Ngoc Thuy – President of HSU shared with new students and parents, who have chosen HSU as the place to send their children.

Dear respected parents, and my dear fellow students,

A philosophy of education should guide every educational endeavor. Embracing a spirit of liberal education, Hoa Sen University has built an international education environment.

The student is considered a unique individual who is not only required to learn, but also to live in an environment which promotes the development of all aspects of their lives, including physical, mental, intellectual, emotional, as well as social skills and global integration.

With the school’s pedagogical team and aspirations for the future as well as my big dream, Hoa Sen University strives to provide students an environment that is world-class, dynamic, and friendly, encourages independent thinking, and develops entrepreneurship. Being unafraid to own and take control of the projects that provide value for their families and society as a whole while they are still in the learning process.

To create a wonderful learning environment, I believe there are four essential elements.

1. In the first place, the lecturer has the critical role of sharing knowledge, inspiring, and accompanying students in their pursuit of acquiring knowledge of global humanity. At Hoa Sen University, we recruit lecturers with such spirit, who are not only experts but also have experiences in foreign learning environments and markets. Simultaneously, with 50% of the training program being taught in English, the students will confidently communicate globally.

All functional departments, even those not directly involved in teaching, worked together to create a civilized educational environment to accompany students’ learning experiences. Our Hoa Sen University is a highly regarded applied university with more than 80% of its programs accredited internationally, and 98% of our undergraduate students and recent graduates are employed by large corporations. From now on, think about that day, not far away for yourself!

2- The second factor is that the school, parents, and students are all in agreement that the university environment should be a place where students can gain practical experience. People used to believe that going to university was a place where you could prepare for life. I believe that university should be LIFE: a place where you can learn and apply things from real life, even if it means facing the problems of a miniature society in school, in order to perfect yourself. Students will not only get education but also self-discovery and identity themselves. How will their valuable future path benefit their family and community? And creating a sense of responsibility for their choices, as well as being kind and loving.

If university education and four years of youth are only used as a practice model for real life, they are a waste of time.

3-The third factor is the supreme responsibility of the school board. And I – the president of this university, along with the faculty, staff, and School Board of Directors, will always be by your side as you go along this crucial journey.

4-Despite everything mentioned above, the success of your four years of school will mostly depend on you. In order to graduate on time and seize  career opportunities, it would be ideal if you have the right mindset and responsibility for mastering your studies and experiences. Moreover, keep in mind  that there are many ways to support you to have more wonderful students experience such as participating in school’s seminars, important school events, sports, and other activities that are are exclusively only for all of the students of Hoa Sen University

Dear parents,

A wise investment in children’s education is an investment of love and, more importantly, a social responsibility. Thank you for believing in us and accompanying us on this journey. We guarantee that when your children graduate from Hoa Sen University, they will be the best version of themselves. There have been many alumnus of the University  become inspirational role models, such as female athlete Nguyen Bich Thuy of the national football team – English Languages Studies student, Miss Grand International 2021 Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien – student of Hospitality Management of Vatel International Program, Vu Do Tuan Huy – General Director of Information Technology of Mai Linh Group – Chairman of Hoa Sen University Alumni Association. And in the auditorium today, in the first row, is Our President, Mr. Hoang Quoc Viet. He came here to attend not only as the president of the Nguyen Hoang Group, with a burning desire to develop Hoa Sen University but also with the love of an alumnus who has always kept Hoa Sen University in his heart.

Finally, with great pleasure, I would like to extend my best wishes to all delegates.  I would like to specifically wish our students the best preparation for their learning journey and a wonderful experience at Hoa Sen University; continuing the wonderful tradition of our University, becoming a valuable member of society while still in school, aspiring to be a global citizen, a cloud citizen, and confident in being the best version of yourself when stepping into the world.
