The Institute of Graduate Studies & Leadership of Hoa Sen University announces the enrollment for the first phase of Master’s programs in 2024, offering specializations in Business Administration (MBA), English Language (MAE), Tourism and Hospitality Management (MAT), and Banking and Finance (MFB) through admission criteria by undergraduate GPA and a statement of purpose. The application deadline is until July 12, 2024.

  1. Applicant criteria:

1.1. General requirements:

Candidates must have graduated from university programs that have been quality accredited by international organizations or recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET).

1.2. Degree and work experience requirements:

1.2.1. Major: Business Administration

Regarding the degree: Candidates must meet one of the following conditions:

  • Have graduated from a university with a degree in Business Administration.
  • Candidates with a university degree in related fields or different majors from domestic or foreign universities recognized by the MOET and have completed the required supplementary knowledge courses (see the attached supplementary knowledge course list) before the issuance of the examination notice (*).

Regarding work experience: Candidates must have at least two years of work experience up to the date of enrollment for candidates from different majors than Business Administration. If the work experience is less, the Admissions Council will review the application for a decision. No work experience is required for candidates graduating from the exact or related majors.

1.2.2. Major: English Language

  • Have graduated from a university majoring in English Language/English or English Literature.
  • Candidates with a university degree in: English Language Teaching, Applied Linguistics, English-American Literature, Comparative Linguistics, American Studies, English Studies, English Translation and Interpretation from domestic or foreign universities recognized by the MOET; or have a university degree in Linguistics, Educational Management, Cultural Studies, Psychology, Educational Sciences graduated from abroad and trained in English recognized by the MOET and have completed the required supplementary knowledge courses (see the attached supplementary knowledge course list) before the issuance of the examination notice (*).
  • Candidates with a university degree in other majors from domestic or foreign universities recognized by the MOET, have met the required supplementary knowledge courses (see the attached supplementary knowledge course list) before the issuance of the examination notice (*) and meet the English requirements, specifically having one of the following degrees or certificates:
    • A university degree or higher where the program is primarily conducted in English;
    • An English language degree or certificate at level 4 or higher according to the 6-level Foreign Language Competency Framework for Vietnam as per the conversion table in section 2.5 of this announcement or other equivalent certificates published by the MOET, valid until the registration date.

1.2.3. Major: Tourism and Hospitality Management

Regarding the degree: Candidates must meet one of the following conditions:

  • Have graduated from a university majoring in Tourism, Tourism and Hospitality Management, Hotel Management, Restaurant and Food Service Management.
  • Candidates with a university degree in related fields or different majors from domestic or foreign universities recognized by the MOET and have completed the required supplementary knowledge courses (see the attached supplementary knowledge course list) before the issuance of the examination notice (*).

Regarding work experience: Candidates must have at least one year of work experience in the field related to the registered major for candidates graduating from related majors or three years of continuous work experience in the tourism field for candidates graduating from other majors (from the date of the university graduation recognition decision to the examination date and have studied supplementary knowledge to have a level equivalent to a university degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management. If the work experience is less, the Admissions Council will review the degree for a decision).

1.2.4. Major: Banking and Finance:

Regarding the degree:

  • Have graduated from a university with a major or specialization appropriate for the field of Finance and Banking from domestic or foreign universities recognized by the MOET.
  • Candidates with a university degree in related fields or different majors from domestic or foreign universities recognized by the MOET and have completed the required supplementary knowledge courses (see the attached supplementary knowledge course list) before the issuance of the examination notice.

(*) Note: If candidates have not completed the foundation knowledge courses before the issuance of the examination notice, they can make a commitment to complete the foundation knowledge courses during their studies (before being considered for Master’s graduation).

1.3. Other requirements: applicable to all enrollment specializations

  • Clear personal history
  • Physically fit for study
  • Submit a complete application within the deadline as per the university’s regulations.
  1. Admissions process:

Candidates submit the application for enrollment according to section III of this announcement.

Candidates meeting the selection criteria can submit their applications.

2.1. Information about graduation classification or the graduation transcript of the candidate at the undergraduate level:

Maximum evaluation score: 45 points

  • Average grade or GPA from 5.0 to 5.9: 25 points
  • Above average or GPA from 6.0 to 6.9: 30 points
  • Good or GPA from 7.0 to 7.9: 35 points
  • Very Good or GPA from 8.0 to 8.9: 40 points
  • Excellent or GPA from 9.0 to 10.0: 45 points

Note:

The overall GPA is rounded to one decimal place (For example: 5.95 is rounded to 6.0 and is scored as 30 points in this section).

For those whose academic results do not use the 10-point GPA scale, the graduation classification will be used to calculate the points for this section.

2.2. Statement of Purpose for Master’s degree:

Candidates write a statement of purpose (essay form) according to the requirements of their chosen major. The essay is scored on a maximum scale of 50 points based on the following criteria:

  • Structure of the essay
  • Information synthesis skills
  • Analysis and argumentation skills
  • Creativity

2.2.1. Business Administration Major (1,500 – 3,000 words)

Topic: Please explain why you continue your academic path with the MBA program and outline your future career direction upon completing this program.

2.2.2. English Language Major (1,000 – 2,000 words)

Topic: Write a 1,000 – 2,000 words essay to illustrate your career vision and reasons for pursuing the Master of Arts in English Studies degree at Hoa Sen University.

2.2.3. Tourism and Hospitality Management Major (1,500 – 3,000 words)

Topic: Please explain why you continue your academic path with the Master of Tourism and Hospitality Management program and outline your future career direction upon completing this program.

2.2.4. Finance and Banking Major (1,500 – 3,000 words)

Topic: Please explain why you continue your academic path with the Master of Finance and Banking program and outline your future career direction upon completing this program.

2.3. Other Criteria (optional): National awards (5 points), participation in scientific papers recognized by reputable organizations (5 points), holding a master’s or doctoral degree from internationally recognized institutions or institutions recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training (5 points). The maximum additional score is 15 points. After adding points, the final assessment score must not exceed 100 points (if it exceeds, it will be rounded to 100 points).

2.4. Language Proficiency Requirement: Candidates must take the foreign language proficiency assessment exam organized by the university if they do not meet one of the following conditions:

  • Holding a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree obtained full-time abroad, recognized by the competent authority according to current regulations.
  • Holding a bachelor’s degree from advanced programs under the Ministry of Education and Training’s Project on training advanced programs at some universities in Vietnam or a high-quality engineer degree (PFIEV) recognized by the engineer certification committee (CTI, France), with foreign partners issuing the degree.
  • Holding a bachelor’s degree in a foreign language major obtained abroad.
  • Holding a foreign language proficiency certificate equivalent to level 3 or above according to the 6-level foreign language proficiency framework of the Ministry of Education and Training, according to the conversion table below, within 02 years from the date of issuance of the language certificate to the date of registration for the master’s entrance exam, issued by institutions authorized or recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training. The principal must assess and be responsible for the authenticity of the language certificate before recognizing its equivalence.

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher awarded by the educational institution within a maximum period of 2 years, meeting the foreign language requirement of level 3 or higher according to the 6-level foreign language proficiency framework used in Vietnam.

Foreign candidates applying for master’s programs in Vietnamese language must achieve a Vietnamese language proficiency level of at least level 4 according to the Vietnamese language proficiency framework for foreigners, or have graduated from a university program taught in Vietnamese. They must also meet the requirements for a second language as stipulated by the educational institution, if applicable.

Note:

  • Certificates used to exempt foreign language exams must be valid until the registration date.
  • For candidates applying for the Master of Arts in English Language program, the requirement for the second language is to achieve a proficiency level equivalent to level 3 or higher according to the 6-level foreign language proficiency framework used in Vietnam or an equivalent level of B1 or higher according to the European framework. Candidates need to submit a copy of their certificate for the Admissions Committee to consider and decide.
  • The foreign language proficiency requirements for both input and output languages for learners must be in the same language.
  1. Application includes:

    • Confirmation of equivalent diploma from the Quality Management Department for cases where the bachelor’s degree is awarded by a foreign educational institution;
    • Academic transcripts from the undergraduate level (*);
    • Confirmation of work experience (for candidates applying for Business Administration, Tourism and Hospitality Management); Download
    • Personal resume with attached photo, certified by the human resources management agency at the workplace or the local authorities where the candidate resides, sealed with the overlapping photo; Download
    • Additional academic transcripts for candidates graduated from a different major than the one they are applying for (*);
    • Language proficiency certificate, if available (*);
    • Priority subject confirmation documents, if available (*);
    • Health examination certificate within 3 months;
    • 3 passport photos (3×4), taken within the last 6 months (with name, date of birth written on the back of each photo, placed in an envelope);
    • Birth certificate (*), which can be submitted additionally when registering for admission;
    (*): Candidates submit notarized photocopies.
  2. Application fee: 1,000,000 VND/application.
    • The application fee is non-refundable in any form.
  3. Timeline:
    • Application submission period: from April 2, 2024, to July 12, 2024.
    • Foreign language proficiency exam: around July 20, 2024.
    • Announcement of exam results and the list of successful candidates: July 29, 2024 (tentative).
  1. Priority Objects
    • ĐT1: Individuals with continuous work experience of 2 years or more (calculated until the deadline for submitting application documents) in locations defined as Zone 1 in the current regulations on university admission. In this case, candidates must have a decision to accept employment or be assigned special duties by the authorized agencies.
    • ĐT2: War invalids, individuals entitled to policies like war invalids.
    • ĐT3: Children of martyrs.
    • ĐT4: Heroes of armed forces, labor heroes.
    • ĐT5: Ethnic minorities with permanent residency for 2 years or more in areas specified in category PO1 in this section.
    • ĐT6: Offspring of individuals engaged in resistance activities affected by toxic chemicals, recognized by the provincial People’s Committee as deformed, disabled, or with reduced self-reliance in daily life and learning due to the consequences of toxic chemicals.
  2. Priority Points
    • Candidates belonging to priority objects are granted 10 points (out of 100) added to the total assessment score (application documents + essay) or awarded 10 points for the Foreign Language subject if not exempted from the Foreign Language test. Each candidate is only eligible for a maximum of one priority object category.
  • Candidates must achieve a total assessment score (application documents + essay) of 50 points or more; with a minimum score of 25 points for the Undergraduate Transcript criteria and 25 points for the Essay criteria.
  • Meeting the exemption criteria for the Foreign Language subject or achieving 50% of the score in the Foreign Language proficiency assessment test.
