Hoa Sen University – Admission for Master’s Programs – Batch 2/2022

The Institute for Postgraduate Studies, Hoa Sen University announces the enrollment for the second phase of the Master’s program in 2022, offering specializations in Business Administration (MBA), English Language (MAE), and Tourism and Hospitality Management (MA in Tourism) with a selection process based on undergraduate GPA and an entrance essay. The application period is from May 16, 2022, to July 10, 2022.

I. ENROLLED SPECIALIZATIONS

  1. Business Administration (MBA) – Field code: 8340101

Four specializations: Business Administration; Public Management; Marketing Management, and Logistics Management.

Duration of study: 18 months. Maximum study period: 42 months.

II. ADMISSION METHOD: SELECTION

  1. Applicant eligibility:

1.1. General requirements:

Candidates must have graduated from universities with programs that have been accredited for quality by international organizations or recognized by the Department of Quality Management of the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET).

1.2. Degree and work experience requirements:

1.2.1. Business Administration major

Regarding the degree: Applicants must meet one of the following conditions:

  • Have graduated from university in the field of Business Administration.
  • Candidates with a university degree in fields close to or different from Business Administration from domestic or foreign universities recognized by the MOET, and have studied and met the requirements of additional knowledge courses (see the attached list of Additional Knowledge Courses) before the issuance of the examination notification (*).


Regarding work experience: Candidates must have at least two years of work experience by the date of enrollment for those from fields other than Business Administration. If the work experience is less than this, the Admissions Board will review the application to make a decision.

1.2.2. English Language Major

Candidates must have graduated in the field of English Language/Literature or English Studies.

Candidates with a university degree in the following fields: English Language Teaching, Applied Linguistics, English and American Literature, Comparative Linguistics, American Studies, English Studies, English Translation and Interpretation from universities either within the country or abroad recognized by the MOET; or those with degrees in Linguistics, Education Management, Cultural Studies, Psychology, Education from foreign universities trained in English recognized by the MOET, and have studied and met the requirements for additional knowledge courses (see the attached list of Additional Knowledge Courses) before the issuance of the examination notification (*).

Candidates with a university degree in a different field from universities either within the country or abroad recognized by the MOET, who have met the requirements for additional knowledge courses (see the attached list of Additional Knowledge Courses) before the issuance of the examination notification (*) and meet the English language requirements, specifically holding one of the following degrees or certificates:

  • A university degree or higher in which the program is primarily conducted in English;
  • An English language degree or certificate equivalent to Level 4 or higher according to the 6-level Foreign Language Competency Framework for Vietnam as per the Conversion Table of Foreign Language Proficiency Levels section 2.5 in this announcement or other equivalent certificates published by the MOET, valid until the registration date.


1.2.3. Tourism and Hospitality Management Major

Regarding the degree: Applicants must meet one of the following conditions:

  • Have graduated from university in Tourism, Tourism and Hospitality Management, Hotel Management, Restaurant and Food Service Management.
  • Candidates with a university degree in related fields: Vietnamese Studies, Management Science, Cultural Management, Business Administration, or another field from universities within or outside the country recognized by the MOET, and have studied and met the requirements for additional knowledge courses (see the attached list of Additional Knowledge Courses) before the issuance of the examination notification (*).

Regarding work experience: Candidates must have at least one year of work experience in a field relevant to the registered major for those with a degree in a related field, or three years of continuous work experience in the tourism industry for those with a degree in a different field (from the date the University Graduation Recognition Decision was signed to the examination date and have studied additional knowledge to have the equivalent level of a Bachelor’s degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management. If the work experience is less than this, the Admissions Board will review the degree to make a decision).

(*) Note: In cases where candidates have not completed the additional knowledge courses before the issuance of the examination notification, candidates can commit to completing these courses during their studies (before being considered for a master’s degree graduation).

1.3. Other requirements: Applicable to all admission majors

  • Clear personal history
  • Physically fit for study
  • Submission of complete application on time as per university regulations.
  1. Selection Process:

Candidates submit their application for selection as per section III of this announcement.

Candidates meeting the selection criteria are eligible to submit their application for selection.

2.1. Information on the candidate’s university transcript or graduation classification:

Maximum evaluation score: 45 points

  • From 5.0 to 5.9 or Average grade: 25 points
  • From 6.0 to 6.9 or Fairly Good grade: 30 points
  • From 7.0 to 7.9 or Good grade: 35 points
  • From 8.0 to 8.9 or Very Good grade: 40 points
  • From 9.0 to 10.0 or Excellent grade: 45 points

Note:

  • The cumulative average graduation score is rounded to one decimal place (e.g., 5.95 rounded to 6.0 will be awarded 30 points in this section).
  • For academic results that do not use a 10-point average grading scale, the graduation classification is used to calculate the score for this section.

2.2. Master’s Entrance Essay: Candidates choose 1 of 2 topics according to the requirements of the major they are applying for to complete the essay. The score for the essay is graded on a scale up to 50 points with the following criteria:

  • Essay structure
  • Information synthesis skills
  • Analysis & argumentation skills
  • Creativity

2.2.1. Business Administration major (1,500 – 3,000 words)

Topic 1: Discuss why you are continuing your education with the Master’s in Business Administration program and your future career orientation after completing this Master’s program.

Topic 2: With your knowledge of Business Administration, analyze the impact and consequences of the Covid pandemic on Vietnamese businesses. In your opinion, what should businesses do in the next phase to improve and develop their business situation?

2.2.2. English Language major (1,000 – 2,000 words)

Share your ideas with example(s) to illustrate: (choose 1 of the following topics)

Topic 1: The ways we use a language depend strongly on the relationships between partners in communication.

Topic 2: It is said that languages develop only in the society of human beings to serve this society as meeting the demand of human beings.

2.2.3. Tourism and Hospitality Management major (1,500 – 3,000 words)

Topic 1: Discuss why you are continuing your education with the Master’s in Tourism and Hospitality Management program and your future career orientation after completing this Master’s program.

Topic 2: With your knowledge of tourism, analyze the impact and consequences of the Covid pandemic on tourism in Vietnam. In your opinion, what should Vietnam do next to improve the current tourism situation?

2.3. Other criteria (optional): National awards (5 points), participation in scientific papers recognized by reputable organizations (5 points), already graduated with a master’s or doctoral degree from reputable international training institutions or domestic institutions recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training (5 points). The maximum additional points are 15 points. After adding points, the final evaluation score should not exceed 100 points (if it exceeds, it will be rounded to 100 points).

2.4. For the foreign language subject: Candidates take the foreign language proficiency test organized by the school or are exempted from the foreign language subject according to item 2.5 in this section.

2.5. Conditions for exemption from the foreign language exam: Candidates applying for selection who meet one of the following conditions will be exempted from the Foreign Language exam:

  • Possess a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree obtained full-time abroad, recognized by the competent authority according to current regulations.
  • Possess a bachelor’s degree from an advanced program under the Project of the MOET on advanced program training at some Vietnamese universities or a high-quality engineer degree (PFIEV) recognized by the Engineer Degree Committee (CTI, France), with a foreign partner awarding the degree.
  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in a foreign language field.
  • Have a foreign language proficiency certificate equivalent to Level 3 or higher according to the 6-level foreign language competence framework of the MOET, according to the conversion table below, valid for 02 years from the date of issue of the foreign language certificate to the registration date for the master’s exam, issued by institutions allowed or recognized by the MOET. The principal must assess and be responsible for the authenticity of the foreign language certificate before recognizing equivalence.

  • Holding a university degree or higher awarded by the educational institution itself within the last 02 years, where the output standards of the program have met the foreign language requirements at Level 3 or higher according to the 6-level foreign language competence framework for Vietnam;
  • Candidates applying who are foreign nationals and wish to enroll in master’s programs taught in Vietnamese must have Vietnamese language proficiency of Level 4 or higher according to the Vietnamese language competence framework for foreigners, or have graduated from university (or equivalent level or higher) where the program was taught in Vietnamese; meeting the requirements for a second foreign language as per the regulations of the educational institution (if any).

Note:

  • Certificates for exemption from the foreign language exam, if subject to validity, must remain valid until the registration date for the exam.
  • For candidates registering for the Master’s program in English Language, the requirement for a second foreign language is languages other than English, reaching a level equivalent to Level 3 or higher according to the 6-level foreign language competence framework for Vietnam, or equivalent to Level B1 or higher according to the European framework. Candidates need to submit a copy of the certificate for the Admissions Board to review and decide.
  • The requirements for input and output foreign language for learners must be in the same language.

III. APPLICATION DOCUMENTS, FEES, AND ADMISSION TIMELINE

  • Essay as required by section 2.2 of part II of this announcement;

  • University diploma or temporary graduation certificate within 3 months (*);
  • Equivalency certificate for university diploma awarded by foreign educational institutions from the Quality Management Department;
  • Transcript, university academic records specifying course names, hours, and scores for each subject (*);
  • Work experience confirmation (for candidates applying for Business Management, Tourism and Hospitality Management majors); Download
  • Personal resume with a photo verified by the current employer’s HR department or the local authority where the applicant resides, with a seal overlapping the photo; Download
  • Additional knowledge course transcript for candidates who graduated in fields related to or different from the applied major (*);
  • Language certificate, if any (*);
  • Documents proving priority status, if any (*);
  • Health check certificate within no more than 3 months;
  • Three 3×4 portrait photos (*) taken within 6 months up to the application date (with the applicant’s name and date of birth on the back, kept in an envelope);
  • Birth certificate (*), candidates can submit it upon registration for enrollment;

(*) Candidates can submit scanned copies or photos of documents via email. In case of direct submission at the institution, candidates should provide notarized copies or bring the originals for verification.

IV. PRIORITY APPLICANTS AND PRIORITY POINTS

  1. Priority Applicants
  • DT1 Individuals who have worked continuously for 2 years or more (as of the application deadline) in regions classified as Area 1 in the current official university admission regulations. In this case, candidates must have an appointment or transfer, assignment decision by an authorized agency or organization;
  • DT2 War invalids, people entitled to policies like war invalids;
  • DT3 Martyr’s children;
  • DT4 Heroes of the armed forces, labor heroes;
  • DT5 Ethnic minorities who have had permanent residence for 2 years or more in regions specified under DT1 in this section;
  • DT6 Biological children of individuals who participated in the resistance war and were exposed to chemical toxins, recognized by the Provincial People’s Committee as having deformities, malformations, or reduced self-sufficiency in daily activities and learning due to the effects of chemical toxins.
  1. Priority Points

Candidates belonging to priority categories will receive an additional 10 points (on a 100-point scale) to the total evaluation score (application + essay) or will be given 10 extra points for the Foreign Language subject if not exempted from taking the Foreign Language exam.

Candidates can only apply one category of priority at most.

V. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must achieve a total evaluation score (application + essay) of 50 points or more; of which the minimum score for the University Transcript criterion is 25 points; the minimum score for the Essay is 25 points.

Meet the conditions for exemption from the Foreign Language subject or achieve 50% of the score scale of the foreign language proficiency test.
