THE NEED FOR DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION IN EFL ENVIRONMENTS

The presentation aims to define differentiation, comparing Equality and Equity, which is grounded by four theories. There are also practicalities of differentiated instruction.

Theories of Learning styles, Multiple intelligences, Zone of proximal development (ZPD), and Bloom’s Taxonomy.

Multiple Intelligence Theory & Instructional Implications (Dr Raqib Chowdhury):

  • Teaching/learning should focus on the strength (particular intelligences) of each person and assessment of learning should measure all forms, not just specific ones.
  • Individuals should be encouraged to use their preferred intelligences in learning.
  • Instructional activities should appeal to different forms of intelligence.
  • Assessment should measure multiple forms of intelligence: Summative vs. formative assessment
