I.Web scraping

In the first session (9:00-10:30), Dr. Pham Vo Minh Thang from Faculty of Economics and Commerce, Hoa Sen University will give a tutorial on web scraping, a process of extracting data from the World Wide Web. This goal of this session is to help the researchers efficiently collect useful information from the internet for their research. As the solution introduced by Dr. Thang in this session is straightfoward and intuitive, it will be suitable for the general audience. Interested people can bring their own laptops to practice collecting the data with the introduced solution (please install Google Chrome in advance).

Abstract:

Web scraping is the process of automatically collecting information from the World Wide Web. This process collect raw data from internet sources and store extracted data into a structured format. This hands-on session will introduce a simple web scraping solution and guide participants to collect their desired data from the internet without worries about making human mistakes, learning to program or paying for any commercial software. Mastering these skills can help participants turn any website into data in minutes.

II. Determinants of workers

In the second session, it is our pleasure to welcome Mr. Le Phuoc Vo Phong, MA student of Open University, to HSRS. Mr. Phong will present his research on “Determinants of workers’ commitments to enterprises in industrial zones in Binh Duong Province”. It noted that this presentation will be in Vietnamese.

Abstract:
By using a data set of 261 workers in industrial zones in Binh Duong province, this study aims to find the impacts of  factors including demographics, working and living environments on how long they commit to working for enterprises. As a result, those significant factors which can lengthen labor’s working time consist of  marriage, experience, salary, having relatives, and quality of union, working environment and safety.
