With insights from their teaching and research experience, the speakers explored reading trends among young generations, especially Gen Z. The conversation explored how learners access knowledge in the digital age, how education shapes reading habits, and how reading connects with creativity and technology.

One central insight shared is that reading is not fading away, but it is transforming into more flexible forms. From printed books to e-books, and from immersive reading to selective reading, young people are creating new ways of engaging with knowledge that fit their pace of life and needs.

Dynamic multidirectional dialogue in an open setting

One of the highlights of the workshop was the active participation of students, who moved beyond listening to directly exchange and share their reading habits and ways of maintaining reading in daily life.

Moreover, the presence of international visitors at Book Street created a lively space for multicultural exchange. Stories about reading habits and approaches to knowledge from various countries were shared naturally, helping broaden perspectives and foster meaningful cross-cultural connections.

Knowledge-practice integration and self-learning development

The workshop serves as a testament to HSU’s educational philosophy in practice, placing learners at the center while promoting dialogue and cultivating independent thinking.

In an open learning environment, students are not only knowledge recipients but also active learners who question, acquire information, and develop their own perspectives. Therefore, reading becomes a personal journey linked to independent learning and adaptability in the digital age.

From the conversations at Book Street, the story of reading continues in a new form: more relatable, flexible, and closely aligned with today’s learner experience.
