Workshop The Future Of Reading In A World of Social Media And Short-Form Content
The workshop “Workshop The Future Of Reading In A World of Social Media And Short-Form Content” took place against a backdrop of rapidly growing digital content — a world where information is increasingly condensed into just a few seconds. The event opened up a richly dialogic academic space, where fundamental questions about young people’s reading habits were raised, analyzed, and discussed in depth.

On the afternoon of April 23, 2026, at Ho Chi Minh City’s Book Street, the Institute of Training and International Cooperation at Hoa Sen University — with support from the Information and Library Center — successfully organized the workshop, creating an open academic environment that drew enthusiastic participation from students and guests alike.
AN OPEN ACADEMIC SPACE – WHEN STUDENTS BECOME THE VOICE OF THE CONVERSATION
Rather than a conventional sharing session, the workshop was designed as an open forum where students took center stage in the discussion.

Students from HSU and the DMU–HSU Vietnam program actively contributed by:
- Raising thought-provoking questions
- Sharing their personal perspectives
- Debating reading habits in the digital age

The wide range of viewpoints that emerged helped clarify one important reality: => Reading is not disappearing — it is simply transforming in an entirely new direction.
A SPECIAL HIGHLIGHT: AN INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVE RIGHT AT The Future Of Reading In A World of Social Media And Short-Form Content workshop
One of the most remarkable and unexpected highlights of the workshop was the enthusiastic participation of international tourists.

Rather than simply observing, many foreign visitors chose to:
- Actively join the discussion
- Share their views on reading culture in their home countries
- Compare how different cultures approach the pursuit of knowledge
Their presence brought a multidimensional perspective to the conversation, expanding the discussion far beyond the boundaries of a classroom and into a truly global context.
=> It was precisely this cross-cultural exchange that transformed the workshop into a vibrant learning experience — one where knowledge was connected across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
LEARNING DOESN’T ONLY HAPPEN IN THE CLASSROOM

The Workshop on the Future of Reading in the Modern World stands as a clear reflection of Hoa Sen University’s educational philosophy:
✔ Human-centric — placing the learner at the heart of the experience ✔ Self-directed — encouraging independent thinking and a love of self-learning ✔ Utility-oriented — learning that is applied and creates real value ✔ Liberal and multicultural — an open learning environment that embraces diversity
At DMU-HSU Vietnam, this philosophy is embedded into every activity — from in-class discussions to real-world events like this workshop. Students are not passive recipients of knowledge; they are active contributors, critical thinkers, and global citizens in the making.
The workshop served as a reminder that some of the most meaningful learning moments happen outside textbooks and lecture halls — in conversations with strangers, in spaces where curiosity meets culture, and in moments where a simple question about reading can open a window to the world.
