INTERCULTURAL DAY 2026: DMU–HSU VIETNAM STUDENTS ENGAGE IN CULTURAL EXCHANGE WITH STUDENTS FROM ITE COLLEGE WEST (SINGAPORE)

Last week, DMU-HSU Vietnam students had the opportunity to connect with lecturers and students from ITE College West (Singapore) during INTERCULTURAL DAY 2026 – “Embrace Diversity, Foster Connections”, organised by the Institute of International Education and Global Engagement in collaboration with the Faculty of Hospitality.

The programme provided a dynamic multicultural learning environment where DMU-HSU students strengthened their intercultural communication skills, broadened their global perspectives and built meaningful connections with their Singaporean peers through a series of hands-on activities.

Building connections through interactive activities

During Intercultural Day 2026, DMU-HSU Vietnam students took part in a range of interactive English-language activities alongside students from ITE College West, including the Rope Handcuff Game and Pass the Ball Game.

These team-based challenges encouraged participants to collaborate, think critically and communicate effectively in an international setting. Beyond developing practical teamwork and problem-solving skills, the activities also fostered mutual understanding, cultural appreciation and lasting friendships between students from Vietnam and Singapore.

The welcoming and energetic atmosphere throughout the programme quickly broke down barriers, allowing students to engage confidently and learn from one another.

Exploring the international learning environment at Hoa Sen University

As part of the programme, DMU-HSU students guided the Singaporean delegation on a Campus Tour, introducing them to the modern learning facilities and academic spaces at Hoa Sen University.

The visit included the Faculty of Hospitality’s professional training facilities, where students gain hands-on experience in an industry-standard environment. The tour offered ITE College West students valuable insight into HSU’s practice-oriented approach to education while providing DMU-HSU students with an opportunity to showcase their learning environment to their international peers.

Discovering Vietnamese culture through culinary experiences

One of the highlights of the programme was the Vietnamese Cooking Experience, where students learnt to prepare fresh spring rolls and brew traditional Vietnamese drip coffee.

Guided by HSU lecturers, students from both institutions worked together to prepare authentic Vietnamese dishes while discovering the cultural stories behind the country’s culinary traditions. The activity created an engaging platform for cultural exchange, encouraging students to share their own traditions and perspectives in a relaxed and collaborative setting.

Beyond introducing Vietnamese cuisine, the experience also enabled DMU–HSU students to develop greater confidence in communicating in English through real-world intercultural interactions.

More than a one-day exchange programme, Intercultural Day 2026 reflects Hoa Sen University’s commitment to providing meaningful international learning experiences for its students.

Through regular participation in cultural exchange programmes, DMU-HSU Vietnam students enhance their English proficiency, intercultural communication, teamwork and global mindset. These opportunities are a distinctive feature of the DMU–HSU Vietnam programme, enabling students to engage with international peers, embrace cultural diversity and develop the confidence and competencies required to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.
