THE FIRST BRUSH STROKE AND TEACHER APPRECIATION CEREMONY OF THE CHINESE STUDIES PROGRAM AT HSU
One of the most remarkable highlights of this year’s welcome ceremony for new students of the Chinese Studies program was the solemn and meaningful First Brush Stroke and Teacher Appreciation Ceremony.
Amid the solemn atmosphere of the event, the new students were honored to receive the Four Treasures of the Study, including a brush, inkstone, paper, and ink, directly from distinguished guests. These items, closely associated with the art of calligraphy, will also accompany them throughout their learning journey in the Cultural Experience course.
The First Brush Stroke symbolizes the beginning of the pursuit of knowledge. As the new students put brush to paper for the first time, they marked their first steps on the path of academic exploration at Hoa Sen University. In this solemn moment, they respectfully bowed in the Teacher Appreciation ritual and collectively expressed their gratitude by saying, “lǎo shī, xièxie”, demonstrating profound respect for their teachers – those who will guide and support them on their upcoming academic journey.
This emotional moment not only left a lasting impression on both teachers and students but also deeply instilled profound humanistic values. It is hoped that the First Brush Stroke and Teacher Appreciation Ceremony will serve as a great source of motivation, reminding the students to always remember the purpose of their educational journey, to uphold traditional moral values, and to continuously strive to “cultivate virtue before acquiring knowledge” – just as they did when they wrote their first calligraphic strokes with sincerity and respect.
Let us look back at the meaningful and memorable moments of this special event!
