Australian scholarships for ASEAN member countries: A Gateway to Leadership and Change

The Australian Government has just announced Australian scholarships at the University of Tasmania for ASEAN member countries, a golden opportunity for young leaders from member countries of ASEAN and Timor-Leste. These prestigious scholarships pave the way for passionate scholars to pursue a Master’s degree program in Australia. This scholarship will equip scholars with the necessary knowledge and skills to actively contribute to the country’s development.

Located on the beautiful island nation of Tasmania, the University of Tasmania (UTAS) is a symbol of intellectual distinction and creativity. Famous as a leading research facility, dynamic and enthusiastic UTAS students and beautiful natural scenery, UTAS will bring unique educational experiences with a combination of modern and traditional elements. UTAS’s pedagogical team is dedicated to help scholars develop their creativity, critical thinking and global perspectives to help them develop into demanding leaders to changes the future.

Scholars not only have the opportunity to study in an environment with excellent scholars from countries around the world but also participate in the ASEAN Young Leaders Program. Therefore, this scholarship will bring many opportunities for learning, experience, connection and career development for participating scholars.

Participating candidates will be evaluated based on criteria of expertise, personal capacity, academic capacity and ability to influence future changes in ASEAN in many different fields such as maritime, integration, economic development and sustainable development goals until 2030. To promote diversity and inclusion, UTAS strongly encourages women, people with disabilities and minorities to apply.

Scholarship recipients will receive:

  • Return flight ticket;
  • Allowance upon arrival;
  • Full tuition support;
  • Living expenses;
  • Basic curriculum (aims to help students introduce and become familiar with the new learning environment);
  • Providing health insurance for international students;
  • Additional learning support;
  • Field research allowance (for research and masters students on courses with a mandatory field research component);
  • Participation in the Indo-Pacific Leadership Program.

  • For citizens of Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, Viet Nam and Timor-Leste: Follow the 2025 Australia Awards Scholarship application process in the respective countries.

Review process:

Applications will undergo an eligibility check, and candidates who qualify as potential candidates will be contacted for an interview. Candidates are evaluated based on their academic abilities, potential to enhance the ASEAN Vision for the Indo-Pacific region as well as leadership and professional qualities.

Qualified candidates will be notified by the end of 2024. Travel arrangements will comply with Australian Government requirements and will include necessary preparation sessions such as course consultations and pre-departure briefings.
