HSU Students Pursue Holistic Development Through International Experiences in Yunnan, China

In January 2026, Hoa Sen University’s faculty and students embarked on Spring Camp 2026: a 14-day international study and experience program in Kunming, Yunnan, China. Organized by the Faculty of Languages – Psychology, the program offered a rich international learning environment where culture, knowledge, and professional practice came together.
Over two weeks, students actively honed their skills, nurtured integrated thinking, and embraced a multicultural perspective.

Contextual Chinese Learning

Recently, faculty and students of Hoa Sen University (HSU) participated in Spring Camp 2026 in Yunnan, where HSU students attended daily Chinese language classes with native instructors, exploring topics relevant to everyday life and professional development. Furthermore, learning lessons emphasized practical, real-world subjects such as Yunnan’s culture and geography, the history of Chinese characters, tourism, cuisine, workplace communication, and career guidance.

Through presentations, interactive dialogues, and explorations of local destinations and specialties, students have a chance to strengthen their listening and speaking abilities, develop quick language reflexes, and gain the confidence to use Chinese naturally in everyday contexts. No longer limited to textbooks, the language comes alive as a vibrant and practical bridge for connection.

Hands-On Career Experience and Access to Advanced Technologies

Beyond language acquisition, Spring Camp 2026 immersed students in practical career experiences through a wide range of experiential activities. From simulating the professionalism of flight attendants and high-speed rail staff to stepping into the fast-paced world of e-commerce livestreaming as streamers and technical crew members, students gained valuable real-world insights.

At the AI lab, developed in collaboration with Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., students explored advanced technologies including image processing, speech recognition, intelligent translation, and robotic control systems. Meanwhile, Architecture and Construction students engaged in experiential learning through detailed models of traditional Chinese ethnic housing and hands-on technical drawing practice using TW-CAD software.

Through these experiences, students developed a deeper understanding of the international workplace and effectively connected classroom knowledge with real-world practice.

Deep Engagement with Chinese and Yunnan Culture

Beyond academic learning, Spring Camp 2026 opened a gateway to Yunnan’s rich cultural heritage. From exploring the evolution of Chinese characters to practicing calligraphy and crafting New Year couplets, students experienced tradition firsthand, immersing themselves in paper cutting, martial arts, classical dance, and the dynamic rhythms of Yunnan’s ethnic minority communities.

Moreover, students also participated in hands-on workshops on traditional medicine and herbal product making, uncovering the wisdom of local practices. Beyond the classroom, they explored the vibrant life of Kunming, visiting iconic landmarks, iconic landmarks, and unique culinary delights, and gaining a deeper appreciation of the region’s rich cultural essence.
