Hoa Sen University Expands International Collaboration with Taekkyon Cultural Exchange

As part of its ongoing internationalization strategy, Hoa Sen University collaborated with the Korea Taekkyon Federation to present the Vietnam-Korea Martial Arts Cultural Exchange Program on July 7, 2026. Beyond introducing a unique cultural heritage, the event reaffirmed HSU’s commitment to international collaboration while providing students with valuable opportunities for intercultural learning and global engagement.

Promoting Global Engagement Through Sports and Cultural Exchange

On July 7, 2026, Hoa Sen University (HSU) partnered with the Korea Taekkyon Federation to organize the Vietnam-Korea Martial Arts Cultural Exchange Program, creating new opportunities for students to engage with Korean culture while advancing the University’s internationalization strategy. The event was attended by leaders of the Korea Taekkyon Federation, representatives of the Ho Chi Minh City Sports Center, the World Martial Arts Association, the Vietnam Taekkyon Federation, the Hoa Sen Sports Center, together with faculty members and students of HSU.

Representatives from Hoa Sen University included:

• Dr. Nguyen Thi Hien Thanh, Director of Hoa Sen Sports Center and Director of HSU Sports Economics program;
• Mr. Bui Bao Trung, MA, Deputy Director of Hoa Sen Sports Center; and,
• Dr. Phan Danh Na, Sports Economics program lecturer. 

From the Korea Taekkyon Federation, attendees included:

• Mr. OH SUNGMOON (오성문), President of the Korea Taekkyon Federation;
• Mr. KYOENGTAE JANG (장경태), Vice President of the Korea Taekkyon Federation;
• Mr. YONGJIN HAN (한용진), Vice President of the Korean Taekkyon Federation;
• Mr. Lee Jin Hyook, Director of the Korea Taekkyon Federation & Founder of Mooseo Academy;
• Mr.  JANGKYU LEE (김은희), Director of the Korea Taekkyon Federation;
• Ms. EUNHEE KIM (김은희), Director of the Korea Taekkyon Federation; and,
• Mr. Munki Baek (백문기), General Manager of the Taekkyon Team, Korean Taekkyon Federation.

The program also featured the presence of:

• Mr. Chau Vinh Liem, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Sports Center;
• Ms. Huynh Thi Yen Oanh, Deputy Head of Planning and Events Department, Ho Chi Minh City Sports Center;
• Mr. Tran Dinh Van Trinh, Chief Representative of the Taekkyon Federation in Vietnam & Director of T.O.P Advertising and Entertainment Company Limited; and, 
• Dr. Vo Danh Hai, Vice President of the World Martial Arts Association.

As part of the program, HSU and the Korea Taekkyon Federation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote cooperation in Taekkyon training, cultural exchange, and the development of this traditional martial art in Viet Nam. The agreement provides a foundation for future collaboration in Taekkyon training, cultural exchange, and martial arts development in Viet Nam, while strengthening cultural connections between Viet Nam and Korea.

To further encourage international engagement, the Korea Taekkyon Federation awarded five scholarships to HSU students for a cultural exchange program in South Korea. The experience will allow students to explore the heritage of Taekkyon while broadening their global perspectives, enhancing cross-cultural skills, and preparing them to become future ambassadors of friendship between Viet Nam and Korea.

Discovering Taekkyon Through Hands-On Experience

The program extended beyond cultural exchange into an immersive journey through the heritage of Taekkyon. Through live demonstrations and interactive sessions with experts and martial arts masters from the Korea Taekkyon Federation, HSU students gained a deeper appreciation of one of Korea’s oldest martial arts traditions.

As they practiced Taekkyon’s signature movements, students also discovered the history, philosophy, and values behind a martial art recognized as both a National Intangible Cultural Heritage of Korea and a UNESCO Representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Moreover, Taekkyon offered students far more than martial arts techniques. It introduced them to a living cultural heritage that reflects Korea’s philosophy, history, and identity. Through active participation, HSU students connected with these traditions in a meaningful way while gaining a richer appreciation of Korean culture.

Global Engagement Through Internationalized Learning

Entering a new phase of development, HSU is continuously strengthening its international network with universities, organizations, and businesses worldwide to bring students closer to meaningful global learning experiences.

The partnership with the Korea Taekkyon Federation represents another step toward HSU’s vision of world-class education, empowering students not only with academic knowledge but also with cultural understanding, global perspectives, and the confidence to thrive in a multicultural environment.

Through experiential learning opportunities created by global partnerships, HSU brings international experiences into students’ learning journeys, helping them develop the confidence, adaptability, and skills needed to become future global citizens.
