The Foundation of Scientific Research: Internal Capacity and Academic Value
Under the Scientific Research Development Workshop series at Hoa Sen University, Workshop 2, themed “Types of Scientific Research: Objectives and Outcomes”, was held on March 26, 2026, with broad participation from the University’s faculty and staff.
The workshop offered a systematic perspective on scientific research activities while also contributing to a clearer articulation of research development directions aligned with Hoa Sen University’s internal capacity and strategic orientation in the new phase.
Scientific Research Rooted in Internal Strength and Academic Value
On March 26, 2026, Hoa Sen University (HSU) organized Workshop 2, titled “Types of Scientific Research: Objectives and Outcomes”, within a three-part workshop series led by Dr. Le Van Ut, HSU Vice President for Scientific Research.
At the workshop, he emphasized a key message: research thrives on the internal strengths of individuals and teams.
Scientific research is no longer regarded merely as a formal requirement but as an ongoing process of exploration, knowledge advancement, and scholarly development. This view aligns with contemporary research orientations that emphasize experience-based learning, individual capabilities, and innovation-driven approaches.

Scientific research classification across three core approaches
A central aim of the workshop was to systematize the categories of scientific research methods in accordance with academic standards. Scientific research activities are classified under three main approaches:
- Methods: Focus on qualitative research, analyzing complex phenomena through non-quantitative data;
- Fields: Apply a coordinated approach across all disciplines, including Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, and Engineering Sciences.
- Objectives: Pursue a balanced combination of basic research, aimed at discovering new knowledge, and applied research, designed to address practical challenges faced by businesses and society.

A globally standardized research product system
Beyond classifying research types, the workshop organized Research Outputs following the frameworks of internationally recognized academic databases, such as Web of Science and Scopus.
- Academic publications: Including journal articles, reviews, and proceedings from international conferences.
- Innovation – Arts: Covering literary works, poetry, musical scores, art criticism, and films.
- Practical applications: Encompassing patents, software, technical reports, and educational or training materials.

Research development integrated with HSU’s internal capacity and institutional role
The workshop emphasized a central theme: HSU’s scientific research development is guided by its core value of internal strength. Aligned with this approach, HSU’s research strategy is framed around distinct value dimensions.
- Unlocking potential: Individuals are encouraged to proactively transform their practical experience and expertise into internationally recognized publications.
- Enhancing HSU’s Global Standing: High-quality research outputs form a critical foundation for the University to improve its position on prestigious global rankings such as Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings, Times Higher Education, U.S. News World Report, and the Academic Ranking of World Universities.
- Integrating Teaching and Research: Translating research results into teaching materials directly enhances the quality of education and strengthens student competitiveness.
- Aligning Research with Unit Strengths: Scientific research should reflect the unique characteristics and strengths of each faculty and department. At the workshop, Dr. Le Van Ut highlighted and analyzed the research outputs associated with the distinctive strengths of each unit within the University.

The continuous development of research groups and academic brands at HSU
In the closing session, Dr. Le Van Ut held an open discussion, responding to questions and exchanging insights on scientific research activities with faculty and staff.
Overall, HSU continues to encourage its Faculties and Institutes to advance the development of research groups, thereby strengthening its academic foundation and enhancing its intellectual presence at the international level.
