On April 3, 2026, the Faculty of Law at Hoa Sen University (HSU), in collaboration with Phap Luat Viet Nam Newspaper, hosted the talk show “Personal Data in the Digital Age: Privacy Protection Against Technological Risks”. The talk show on personal data at Hoa Sen University provides students with valuable insights into legal issues, technology, and civic responsibility in the digital environment, thereby raising awareness of privacy rights and personal data protection.
In an era of rapid digital transformation, personal data plays a central role in how individuals learn, work, and connect. However, the benefits of the digital environment are accompanied by growing concerns over privacy, information leaks, and unauthorized data use, posing serious challenges, especially for younger generations.

On April 3, 2026, the Faculty of Law at Hoa Sen University (HSU), in collaboration with Phap Luat Viet Nam Newspaper, hosted the talk show “Personal Data in the Digital Age: Privacy Protection Against Technological Risks”, drawing strong interest and participation from students.
The program brought together distinguished speakers who shared valuable insights:
- Dr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Deputy Chief of Staff, Ministry of Justice;
- Colonel Do Minh Kim, Deputy Head of the Office 3, Department of Cybersecurity and High-Tech Crime Prevention (A05) under the Ministry of Public Security;
- Mr. Nguyen Huynh Hiep, MA, Director of the HSU Economic Law Program; and,
- Mr. Huynh Bao Long, Director, Huynh Nguyen Consulting Company Limited.
Empowering HSU Students to Become Responsible Digital Citizens
In his remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Huy Nhut, HSU President, emphasized that the talk show reflected the HSU’s commitment to embedding human rights into teaching and learning.

In line with this vision, HSU strives to nurture students who are not only strong in their fields but also equipped to navigate the challenges of modern society. In today’s digital environment, this means understanding legal frameworks, developing self-protection skills, practicing responsible and respectful online behavior, and respecting the personal data of others.

This also contributes to the development of digital citizens, individuals who not only use technology effectively but also understand their social responsibilities in an increasingly connected world.
Personal Data as an Emerging Legal and Social Concern
At the talk show, speakers provided in-depth insights into personal data breaches in Viet Nam, emphasizing that the unauthorized collection, sharing, buying, selling, and misuse of data harms individuals’ privacy, mental health, and finances, while also disrupting business operations and eroding trust in the digital society.

From a state management perspective, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Binh discussed Viet Nam’s legal framework, enforcement mechanisms, and principles for personal data governance. His insights help students understand that protecting personal data is now more than just a technological issue; it’s also a legal, ethical, and civic responsibility.
Raising Awareness and Skills for Personal Data Protection
Among the issues addressed, the program examined the increasingly organized and large-scale exploitation and commercialization of personal data, emphasizing its cross-border implications.

From a cybersecurity perspective, Colonel Do Minh Kim emphasized that, beyond legal regulations, technological solutions, and operational measures from authorities, each individual must proactively equip themselves with the knowledge to protect their personal data in the digital environment.
This is particularly important for students, who frequently use social media, online learning platforms, digital apps, and technology services in their daily lives. By properly understanding personal data, learners can share information safely, identify potential risks, and minimize the likelihood of privacy violations.

Following that, Mr. Huynh Bao Long emphasized that personal data is increasingly recognized as a human right and shared numerous real-life examples of data leaks, highlighting their serious consequences for individuals and businesses.
Integrating Academic and Practical Perspectives on Personal Data at HSU Law
From an academic training perspective, Mr. Nguyen Huynh Hiep, MA, highlighted an approach that guides students in leveraging data for learning and research while adhering to personal data protection and cybersecurity regulations.

Engaging with topics such as privacy, cybersecurity, human rights, and legal accountability in the digital space enables HSU students to study legal issues through a practical lens, thereby enhancing professional reasoning relevant to modern social contexts.
Cultivating Digital-Age Privacy Awareness
Beyond delivering knowledge, the talk show “Personal Data in the Digital Age: Privacy Protection Against Technological Risks” creates an essential space for dialogue among law, technology, and education.

Through practical insights shared by experts, HSU students gain a deeper understanding that personal data is not merely information, but also a fundamental right, a matter of safety, and an essential aspect of human dignity in the digital age.
Through this program, HSU aims to nurture students into proactive, knowledgeable, and responsible learners who contribute to a culture of personal data protection, helping to build a safe, civilized digital community that respects privacy.
