Mr. Huynh Phuc Thinh, a Chinese Language Studies student and member of the Talent Sector of the HSU Chinese Culture Hub, brought home a Consolation Prize from the 5th Southern Region Open Chinese Eloquence Contest for Universities – 2026. This recognition celebrates his personal dedication while highlighting the language proficiency, communication abilities, and reasoning skills that HSU cultivates among its Chinese Language Studies students.
Participation of Students from 17 Universities in the Final Round
More than a platform for students to demonstrate their Chinese language proficiency, the final round of the 5th Southern Region Open Chinese Eloquence Contest for Universities brought together young talents from 17 universities across Southern Viet Nam. The contest welcomed representatives from the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh City’s Vietnam-China Friendship Association, the Chinese Business Association in Vietnam, and Chinese enterprises in the city.
The presence of these organizations and businesses added broader dimensions to the competition, connecting language education with cultural understanding, academic exchange, and professional engagement in the context of Viet Nam – China relations. Beyond testing language proficiency, the competition challenged students to communicate their ideas to an audience familiar with the Chinese language and culture. This experience helped them build confidence in public speaking and develop communication skills for professional settings.
Through this academic exchange, Phuc Thinh demonstrated his ability to apply his Chinese language knowledge, organize his ideas, and present his arguments effectively.

Student Engagement in the HSU Chinese Culture Hub
As a Chinese Language Studies student and member of the Talent Sector of the HSU Chinese Culture Hub, Phuc Thinh has opportunities to explore his major beyond the classroom. At HSU, student clubs create various opportunities for students to turn what they learn in class into meaningful experiences. By practicing Chinese, exploring cultural traditions, and participating in shared activities, students can strengthen their language skills in a dynamic and interactive setting.
The Consolation Prize reflects Phuc Thinh’s dedication to developing his Chinese language proficiency and communication skills. His achievement among competitors from 17 universities also highlights the learning outcomes and academic development of HSU’s Chinese Language Studies students.

Chinese Eloquence Contest: Language Proficiency and Critical Thinking in Practice
Speaking a foreign language well takes more than a strong vocabulary or accurate pronunciation. True eloquence comes from the ability to think critically, structure arguments, and convey ideas in a clear and persuasive way. For students, the eloquence contest offers an opportunity to put these abilities into practice. They must draw on their language knowledge, express their perspectives, respond to complex topics, and maintain confidence while speaking before an audience.
Phuc Thinh’s Consolation Prize recognizes his efforts in Chinese language learning and the progress he has made in language proficiency, critical thinking, and reasoning. As a Chinese Language Studies student at HSU, he has demonstrated how language learning can also strengthen the ability to analyze issues and communicate independent viewpoints. These competencies are valuable not only in academic settings but also in everyday communication and future professional environments, where independent thinking, confident expression, and cross-cultural understanding matter.
Language Learning, Cultural Exchange, and Adaptability
The presence of representatives from diplomatic, cultural, and business organizations underscored the growing importance of Chinese as a means of communication and cooperation across different sectors. For Chinese Language Studies students, the competition offered more than an opportunity to demonstrate their language proficiency; it also provided a chance to connect with organizations and businesses, gain practical perspectives on the use of Chinese in professional settings, and explore possible career directions.
Phuc Thinh’s achievement shows how students can apply their academic knowledge in practice and earn recognition beyond the university. HSU hopes it will inspire Chinese Language Studies students and members of the HSU Chinese Culture Hub to seek opportunities to take part in competitions, academic forums, and exchange activities. Stepping beyond the classroom helps students build confidence, develop essential skills, and gain valuable experience for their future careers.
