HSU Celebrates Student Scientific Research Excellence and Discusses the Evolving Role of Student Research in the New Era
On the morning of June 11, Hoa Sen University held the Award Ceremony for the 15th Student Scientific Research Competition and a workshop on “The Evolving Role of Student Research in the New Era”. Beyond honoring outstanding research achievements, the event served as a platform to discuss how scientific research contributes to the development of professional expertise, nurtures innovative thinking, and equips students for global integration in an increasingly interconnected world.
Recognition of 19 Outstanding Student Research Projects for the 2025-2026 Academic Year
On the morning of June 11, Hoa Sen University (HSU) held the Award Ceremony for the 15th Student Scientific Research Competition. During the event, HSU recognized and awarded certificates of merit to 19 outstanding student research projects. The awards comprised one First Prize, two Second Prizes, three Third Prizes, and thirteen Consolation Prizes, honoring student groups for their remarkable achievements in the competition of the 2025-2026 academic year.
At the same time, HSU recognized the valuable contributions of its lecturers, who accompanied and supported students throughout the process of developing and completing their research projects. The event helped promote the spirit of academic research, inspiring students to take initiative in exploring, innovating, and applying classroom knowledge to practical contexts.
Workshop “The Evolving Role of Student Research in the New Era”
Following the Award Ceremony, the workshop “The Evolving Role of Student Research in the New Era” took place, delivered by Dr. Le Van Ut, Vice President for Scientific Research, University Ranking, and Academic Internationalization.
In his presentation, Dr. Le Van Ut examined the role of student research from political, legal, scientific, and practical perspectives. He emphasized that student research was not only an academic activity but also an important component of national policies on science, technology, and innovation development, as well as of current regulations governing higher education and student affairs.
Expansion of Support Policies for Student Scientific Research at HSU
The workshop also presents HSU’s new guidelines and policies on student research activities. Under the draft regulations, students will be provided with guidance and support throughout the research process, permitted to propose and register research topics, granted access to research facilities and academic resources, offered financial support for research projects, and supported in publishing research results as well as in registering Intellectual Property Protection rights for valuable research outputs.
Moreover, HSU establishes an annual roadmap for student research activities, covering the full process from topic registration and selection to implementation, acceptance, evaluation, ranking, and final review, thereby fostering a systematic and professional research environment for students.
Student Scientific Research for Professional Skills Development in the New Era
The relationship between scientific research and students’ professional competencies in the new context attracted considerable attention. Through practical examples and scenarios, Dr. Le Van Ut emphasized that scientific research not only helps students produce research outputs but also contributes to the development of critical thinking, problem-solving, data collection and analysis skills, teamwork, leadership, innovation, and adaptability to the increasingly demanding requirements of the labor market.
Furthermore, the workshop highlighted the gap between students’ expectations and the actual needs of businesses. While many students aspired to a dynamic working environment, high income, and rapid career advancement opportunities, businesses placed greater value on candidates who could solve practical problems, demonstrate initiative and adaptability, and possess critical thinking, teamwork skills, and an innovative mindset. These competencies were identified as core outcomes developed through participation in scientific research.
Establishment of an Innovation-Driven and Practice-Oriented Academic Environment
Using a simulation model of an international corporation expanding into the Mekong Delta, the workshop provides students with a realistic view of how research thinking was applied in practice. The process, from identifying problems and collecting data to analyzing markets, assessing risks, and proposing strategic solutions, highlights essential skills cultivated through scientific research. These competencies are also highly valued by businesses in recruitment, human resource development, and the preparation of future management teams.
The workshop not only provides an opportunity to recognize the scientific research achievements of HSU students but also reaffirms HSU’s orientation toward building a dynamic academic environment that integrates training, research, innovation, and societal needs. Through this initiative, HSU continues to encourage students to actively participate in scientific research, develop their competencies, enhance their competitiveness, and establish a solid foundation for their future academic and career pathways.
