During the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Huy Nhut, HSU Vice President, highlighted his perspective on Ho Chi Minh City’s potential and strategic trajectory in advancing the marine economy, and affirmed HSU’s role in cultivating the human resources required to support this domain.

He highlighted that once the merger was completed, Ho Chi Minh City possessed an 89 km coastline and the country’s most extensive seaport system. After decades of growth driven by industry, services, and rapid urbanization, the city stood at a turning point, ready to unlock the potential of the marine economy, transform its development model, and advance toward a green, circular, and knowledge-driven economy.

“The sea is more than a resource; it is a vast space that holds the potential for sustainable development. Ho Chi Minh City prioritized three core pillars: the development of ports, logistics, and maritime services; the expansion of coastal urban areas alongside green tourism; and the establishment of a research and innovation center for the marine economy”, noted the HSU Vice President.

In that context, HSU affirms its commitment to cooperating with Ho Chi Minh City in human resource development for the marine economy, thereby contributing to the realization of the vision of this sector as a primary driving force in the future.

Sharing the same idea, Mr. Tran Luu Quang claimed that: “The marine economy is an emerging global trend, and we are moving rather slowly. Therefore, we need to prioritize this field in the coming time”.

The meeting not only served as an opportunity for Ho Chi Minh City leaders to honor and express appreciation to educators, but also as a forum to learn and address recommendations and proposals from university and college leaders for shaping the city’s future development policies.

Following that, Mr. Tran Luu Quang claimed that: Due to entering a new stage of development, the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee affirmed that education and training, especially university education, would become the backbone of a knowledge-based economy and drive sustainable growth and international integration.
