WoS Database for Scientific Research and International Recognition
To strengthen scientific research capabilities and improve international publishing skills, the Library at Hoa Sen University (HSU) invites lecturers and staff to participate in the workshop: “WoS Database Fundamentals: Building a Foundation for Academic Research and Global Recognition”.
Currently, the two leading scientific databases, Scopus (Netherlands) and Web of Science (WoS, USA), are recognized as top global systems, playing a crucial role in international research and publication. They are widely regarded as essential tools for ensuring academic integrity. Notably, Scopus and WoS are widely used as reference systems by leading global university rankings in assessing research performance, including six prominent rankings within the SATUQU group.
While Scopus provides extensive tools to support research activities, WoS is viewed as a platform that further strengthens and optimizes these capabilities. In fact, even Scopus-indexed journals must pass a strict and lengthy review process before being considered for inclusion in WoS. This also highlights the rigorous quality standards and highly selective nature of the WoS journal system.
The workshop aims to provide HSU faculty and staff with essential knowledge of WoS, while guiding them in effectively utilizing global academic resources for research and international publication. Furthermore, as a leading global scientific database, WoS plays a vital role in evaluating research quality, citation impact, and academic reputation at both individual and institutional levels.

(2) Exploring free vs. licensed WoS access;
(3) Scopus vs. WoS: key differences and insights;
(4) WoS in Vietnam’s SARAP ranking system;
(5) WoS and top global university rankings under the SATUQU group;
(6) Comparison of funding policies for Scopus and WoS publications; and,
(7) Practical training: searching, analyzing, and evaluating data on WoS platforms
Through this program, participants will learn how to effectively use WoS as a tool to identify research trends, shape future research directions, and improve the quality and impact of scientific publications.
Moreover, the workshop equips participants with essential knowledge and skills to strengthen research capacity, access international academic standards, and contribute to elevating publication quality and the university’s academic reputation in the context of global integration.
