In an age when AI can deliver answers in seconds, knowing the answers is no longer enough. What truly matters is knowing how to ask the right questions, verify information, work with data, and turn knowledge into solutions for real-world problems.

These are the capabilities that scientific research nurtures, turning curiosity into a meaningful journey of discovery. For students, research is not simply about completing a topic or writing a paper. It is an opportunity to recognize a problem, turn curiosity into meaningful questions, search for and verify information, analyze evidence, explore solutions, and draw conclusions with confidence and sound reasoning. These skills are becoming increasingly important as AI reshapes the way students learn, work, and navigate information.

Today’s students are not simply expected to know how to use AI. They must also know when to question it, how to verify its outputs, and where its limitations lie. Beyond finding answers, they need to ask questions that open up new possibilities and explore problems that AI cannot yet solve for humans.

Your First Year Could Be the Start of Your Research Journey

Sometimes, a research journey starts with something surprisingly simple: a question about what students see, experience, or wonder about every day. From that first question, they can begin exploring problems, examining data, testing ideas, and searching for solutions.

Along the way, they develop critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills while discovering how classroom knowledge can make sense of the real world. To help first-year students build a research mindset from the outset, the Office of Research Affairs and Science Journal at Hoa Sen University is organizing the workshop: Student Scientific Research: Where Curiosity Begins”.

Through the workshop, students will explore the fundamentals of scientific research, understand the value of research competencies for their academic and professional development, and discover how research thinking can help them navigate learning and problem-solving in the age of AI.

The program will also open the door to opportunities for students to participate in scientific research projects at Hoa Sen University, join the HSU Student Scientific Research Idea Competition, and discover how a simple question, an idea, or a real-world problem can become the starting point for a research journey.

University is not only where students learn what is already known. It is also where they begin to ask new questions, explore new possibilities, and contribute to new knowledge. This journey can begin in the first year, not only in later stages of university.
