Department of Psychology attended the Conference “New Approaches to University Education in Asia”

April 22, 2019

Last Saturday, April 20, 2019, Master Nguyen Hong An of the Department of Psychology and Center for Psychological Research and Consulting (Hoa Sen University), Master Le Thi Minh Tam (RMIT University Vietnam) and Dr. Skultip Sirikantraporn (Fulbright University Vietnam), jointly presented the paper “Mental Health Care Services at Vietnamese Universities” in the Conference “New Approaches to University Education in Asia” (New Approaches in Asian Higher Education) organized by Fulbright University Vietnam.

The presentation focuses on the importance of Mental Health Services at Universities and the opportunities and challenges in developing these services. In particular, psychologists determined that the construction of University Counseling programs encountered difficulties such as (1) the ability to reach students, (2) policy difficulties, (3) bias in the image of mental health, and (4) gaps in resources that help keep services running. However, the authors also point out current advantages such as (1) the flexibility and creativity of professionals to respond to circumstances, (2) positive changes in some policies, and (3) initial cooperation programs between schools and countries. Finally, the authors also introduce three models of current mental health care services at RMIT University, Fulbright University and Hoa Sen University for participants to refer to.

Hopefully, this will be one of the first steps to develop further collaborative programs between Universities to build and perfect current University Mental Health Service models.
