Driving the digital economy in the e-commerce field

Viet Nam’s economy continued to post strong double-digit growth, fueled by e-commerce, according to the e-Conomy SEA 2024 report. With the e-commerce sector as a key driver, Viet Nam’s digital economy was projected to grow by 16% over 2023, reaching $36 billion in 2024. Its GMV was expected to hit US$22 billion, representing an impressive 18% growth over 2023.

Particularly, with the rise of e-commerce platforms like Shopee and Lazada, and shopping-integrated social networks such as TikTok Shop, Vietnamese consumer behavior is shifting strongly to the digital space. This not only expands the labor market but also creates an urgent demand for highly specialized professionals with adaptive, modern thinking.

Combining Digital Mindset and Business Competency Training

The Electronics Commerce (E-commerce) major at Hoa Sen University (HSU) goes beyond theory, giving students the practical skills to succeed. The program teaches not only how to operate an e-commerce system but also how to develop digital thinking, business skills, and comprehensive digital value chain management.

Different from the simple image of “selling online”, the e-commerce major gives students access to a wide range of knowledge. The curriculum covers everything from digital marketing strategy and user experience (UX) optimization to trade logistics, user data analytics, and digital product management. Furthermore, the Integrated learning curriculum integrates new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), automation with Python, and no-code app creation platforms like AppSheet. This innovative approach empowers students to independently create their own business tools, eliminating their reliance on programmers.

Learning from practice through business connections

At HSU, e-commerce students gain practical experience by launching a real store on trading platforms like Shopee. They manage the entire systematic supply chain, from sourcing products and creating content to managing revenue and analyzing market feedback.

Moreover, students get direct practical experience throughout the program. They regularly take field trips to e-commerce businesses, complete two mandatory internships, and participate in professional events like the Digital Business Students competition organized by VECOM. These opportunities allow them to put theory into practice and expand their professional network.
