Runner-up of the 2025 Vietnamese Speech Contest Goes to a Student from the Faculty of Languages – International Cultures
On May 14, a team of students majoring in English, Chinese, and Law at HSU proudly secured the runner-up position at the 2025 Vietnamese Speech Contest, organized by Ho Chi Minh City University of Foreign Languages and Information Technology (HUFLIT).
HSU Students Promote Vietnamese Identity in the Digital Era
The Vietnamese Speech Contest is an academic platform that honors the value of language and national culture, with participation from six universities in Ho Chi Minh City’s 21st Emulation Bloc. It provides students an opportunity to develop language competence, enhance expressive and critical thinking skills, and spread the national voice in a professional academic environment.

With the theme “Vietnamese – A Bridge for Heritage and Integration”, the HSU team of English, Chinese, and Law students excelled among numerous impressive teams to achieve the runner-up position at the 2025 Vietnamese Speech Contest.
“The strength of our team is unity. Above all, the members truly love Vietnamese and its cultural heritage. When we speak about what we love, we speak differently. That’s why during the speech, we not only defend the assigned topic but also defend what our hearts entrust us to share.”
Nguyễn Vũ Minh Thắng – English Language student.

This year’s contest served as a forum for knowledge exchange and debate on current issues: Vietnamese language use among Gen Z; Vietnamese in the digital era – opportunities and challenges; Vietnamese in diplomacy and national image promotion; linguistic interaction – is Vietnamese being “diluted”?; Vietnamese in creative arts; and students’ responsibility in preserving the language.

The HSU team went through multiple rigorous rounds to secure the runner-up position. Carrying the spirit of preserving cultural identity, the teams highlighted Vietnamese as a bridge connecting cultural heritage with younger generations and as a “voice” for artistic creativity. They also addressed concerns about how developments in the digital era may inadvertently erode the intrinsic value of the mother tongue. Through well-reasoned arguments and engaging presentations, the students clearly demonstrated their responsibility to protect the purity of Vietnamese against modern societal pressures.
Respecting Diverse – Fostering Critical Thinking
Programs at HSU, especially within the Faculty of Languages – International Cultures, not only focus on improving professional knowledge but also promote critical thinking and personal development. Through cultural exploration activities, practical simulation contests, and language clubs, students cultivate the ability to apply language flexibly across diverse situations.
Sharing the joy of victory with his teammates, Minh Thắng said:
“What we present is not only a demonstration of skills but also our personal conviction in our perspectives. The learning environment at HSU, which respects differences, nurtures the confidence to speak up with multiple viewpoints. Students are encouraged to express their thoughts and learn to advocate for what they believe in.”

Achieving the runner-up title is not only a testament to debating and language skills but also reflects a generation of students ready to promote national identity through contemporary academic spirit. From this speech platform, HSU students have shown that Vietnamese is not just a language, but also an identity, a belief, and a medium for young generations to engage in dialogue in the digital era.
Although the contest has ended, HSU students’ journey in preserving the Vietnamese language continues in every thought and classroom, nurtured by an academic environment rich in liberal education and respect diverse.
