[Love Yourself, Shun Evil – Season 2] The “Love Yourself Right, Guide Yourself True” Workshop

April 16, 2025

Continuing its journey of spreading messages about mental health, “Love Yourself, Shun Evil” Season 2 has officially returned with a more relatable and practical theme: “Self-Love is a Skill.” The “Love Yourself Right, Guide Yourself True” workshop will kick off this fascinating journey of learning to love oneself.

Paving the Way to a Journey of Understanding and Loving Yourself

With its profound and accessible message, the “Love Yourself Right, Guide Yourself True” workshop became a space for connection, reflection, and healing. It was a place where students and young people, who are in the process of shaping their identities amidst countless views on “self-love,” had a chance to pause and listen to themselves.

At the event, Dr. Nguyen Thi Loan, a lecturer in Psychology, shared gentle insights that resonated deeply with the audience. Through each story and empathetic question, she raised a question that seems familiar but is often overlooked: Do we truly know how to love ourselves?

From there, the concept of “loving yourself right” was redefined. It isn’t just about saying positive things or focusing on outward appearances; it’s the ability to face yourself with compassion, even when you make mistakes, feel weak, or aren’t good enough.

A special highlight of the workshop was the activity of creating a personal Vision Board, where each person designed their own “map of love.” On it, images, words, and messages expressed what they were striving for—not to become perfect, but to live true to their unique selves. It was a commitment: “I am worthy of love, even when I am not perfect.”

Self-Love Is a Skill, Not an Instinct

In a world full of advice on self-love, many young people still feel lost, pressured, and even guilty if they haven’t achieved it. That’s why “self-love” should be seen not as a natural state but as a skill that needs to be learned and practiced.

The core of this skill is self-compassion—the ability to treat yourself with empathy, kindness, and understanding, especially during moments of difficulty, failure, or when you aren’t at your best. Instead of blaming yourself, comparing yourself to others, or avoiding emotions, self-compassion helps you listen to and accept yourself authentically. Self-compassion has three main components:

  • Mindfulness: Being aware of emotions and observing thoughts mindfully, without judgment or avoidance.
  • Self-kindness: Treating yourself with gentleness, especially when you are hurt or fall short of expectations.
  • Common Humanity: Understanding that suffering and failure are shared human experiences, not just your own.

The First Piece – The Beginning of a Healing Journey

Based on the shared experiences and insights from the “Love Yourself Right, Guide Yourself True” workshop, it is clear that self-love is not innate; it is a process of learning and growth. Self-love is not just about saying kind words to yourself but also having the courage to place yourself at the center of your own care. It is the first step on the journey toward healing and personal development.

With the theme “Self-Love is a Skill,” Season 2 of “Love Yourself, Shun Evil” has begun with a truly profound and memorable chapter. And this journey will not stop here. Ahead are more pieces with diverse experiences, helping each person gradually build a complete self—not from perfection, but from embracing every single part, including the flaws.
