On the morning of March 20, 2026, at Vinh Loc High School (HCMC), a classroom observation and professional development session for the English Department took place with the participation of nearly 30 teachers representing schools in District Cluster 7, representatives from the Department of Education and Training, the School Board, representatives of Grade 10 parents, and the entire English Department of the school. Notably, the program featured the presence of two lecturers, Ms. Bien Thi Thanh Mai and Ms. Tran Ngoc Dung, from the English Language Teaching specialization, Department of English Linguistics, Hoa Sen University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The demonstration lesson for Unit 7 \u2013 Tourism (English 10 \u2013 Friends Global), conducted by Ms. Pham Nguyen Tra My and Ms. Sheena Marie L. Sebastian, created a lively learning atmosphere, helping students expand their vocabulary and practice listening, speaking, and reading skills through practical activities; in particular, the final presentation showed the students’ confidence and effective use of English. After the lesson, attending teachers joined in a discussion to exchange ideas and professional feedback. Many comments recognized the strengths of the open lesson, especially the organization of activities that encouraged active student participation and provided opportunities for language use. At the same time, teachers also shared practical suggestions to enhance efficiency in designing and implementing communicative activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the program, M.A. Bien Thi Thanh Mai \u2013 a lecturer from the English Linguistics Department, Hoa Sen University \u2013 presented the workshop: \u201cUsing Communicative Tasks in English Lessons \u2013 How can we turn exercises into communicative tasks?\u201d. The content focused on transforming traditional exercises into communicative tasks by adjusting objectives and classroom activity organization. These practical suggestions help teachers build lessons that are closer to real-life situations, thereby supporting students in using English more effectively and naturally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From a professional perspective, the observation and workshop session brought about many meaningful reflections. In the context of current educational reform, creating an environment where students “use” the language instead of just “learning” the language has become increasingly important. This does not necessarily require massive changes but can start from adjusting familiar activities toward increasing interaction and communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The participation of Hoa Sen University lecturers, especially from the English Linguistics Department, contributed to deepening the professional exchange and affirming the effectiveness of cooperation between universities and English departments at high schools. This is an important foundation for building a sustainable professional learning community where theory and practice are closely linked, aiming to improve the quality of English teaching and learning in general education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
