HSU Center for Service-Learning (CSL) was established in March 2015 with the mission of integrating Service-Learning component into University’s curriculum. CSL is the first center in Vietnam that founded with the purpose of integrating SL into Higher Education’s program.
The establishment of CSL aligns with HSU’s vision: “As a not-for-profit institution, Hoa Sen University has the vision to become a leading university in Vietnam with international recognition in teaching, research, and community service.”
Service-Learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service and academic study to enrich learning experience, enhance strong sense of society and strengthen community. Service-Learning is increasing its popularity in higher education for its effectiveness in enhancing civic responsibility, acceptance of diversity, leadership skills. Service-Learning has powerful impact of students’ moral, social-cognitive and emotional development.
The HSU Center for Service-Learning promotes Service Learning projects in all disciplines at Hoa Sen University, making Hoa Sen a leading institution in quality teaching and community service.
- Providing support to faculty, including training workshops and other supporting activities, in the implementation of Service-Learning projects.
- Liaising with community partners (NGOS, service agencies, Social Entrepreneurs, Not-for-profit organizations) to develop suitable projects for faculty staff.
- Liaising with funding agencies and donors.
- Collaborating with other universities, both local and global, to implement inter-institutional Service-Learning projects

Facilitating meeting among Faculty staff and Representative of Community partner for seeking opportunity in collaboration
Had a meeting with Deaf Community Organization of Ho Chi Minh city, LIN Center and faculty staff from Faculty of Economics and Commerce, Faculty of Professional Education and Faculty of Languages and Cultural Studies.
Working with Office of Service-Learning (OSL) from The Hongkong Polytechnic Univeristy for International Service-Learning
CSL and OSL have successfully collaborated for many programs in year 2015: providing vocational training for street-children, free eye examining for orphanage, and many more.
